Abstract:
The use of LIDAR and imagery data from other sensors is currently a hot topic in regional and global mapping of forest structural parameters, such as height and biomass. Combined use of LIDAR sampling data and complete global coverage of other remote sensing data for vegetation 3D structure mapping requires some new data processing and fusion technologies. This talk will cover various relevant issues. The potential information on biomass from a LIDAR waveform and the required LIDAR samples for reliable biomass estimation were investigated using both model and real data. The stratification or segmentation of study region and the proper models for extending the biomass from LIDAR samples into all forested areas in the study area were explored. Case studies using LIDAR and other imagery data will be presented.
